vi小，emacs大
基本功能一样多，emacs花哨工能多
emacs和cvs结合较好
vi简单，emacs常用快捷间多，不好上手

vi is an editor,
emacs is a high-level OS, at least an IDE
quite different

vi for small and quick editting jobs in a terminal.
emacs for your project-oriented editting and other stuff.
some packages in emacs are very useful and efficient.
calendar, gnus, dired, octave, calc, bbdb, dictionary,
auctex ... i can't work without emacs.

Besides, it's small. I am always paranoid at disk space. :p

I only use vi, 'coz it is simple and efficient
For most tasks several scripts should be enough, no need to use emacs, kaka!
I am now using a 80GB hd with rh9 on it, no need to worry about disk space :-)

My HD is 120GHz, but whenever the size of Linux system files is
near 1.7GB, I feel I have to delete some 'garbage' that I would
never use. ;-)

the system files I accessed is no more than 150MB, but Linux occupies
more than 1.5GB! :-( Anyway, still much better than Windows since I
have almost everything - kernel, utilities, GUI, development tools,
etc. With 1.5GB in Windows, I would only have a raw system.

Once you know how to play with vi, you'll be banifet for the rest of
your life.
