Jiuzhaigou is BEAUTIFUL. Here are my travel tips.
Hotel:
I stayed at InterContinental Resort Jiuzhai Paradise. The hotel and the
view
are nice, the service is not. It is around an hour away from the
airport,
half an hour away from Jiuzhaigou Valley, 2 hours away from Huanglong,
and 1
.5 hours away from Holy Pond, or whatever the english name is. I never
heard
this before, but apparently that our bellman was also our host. He told
us
he could arrange all our trip needs, such as car and show tickets. And
it
turned out that these are the only two things he could help.
Pros: The best hotel in the area. Nice complex and nice view. Best
restaurants in the place. Grocery store and Drugstore on property.
Cons: They didn’t vacuum the carpet during our stay, even when it was
obviously dirty. One of the corners in the bathroom seemed to be never
cleaned. The check out was so slow that I had to wait 40 minutes in
line,
although there were only three people in front of me. That was REALLY
awful.
Food:
Most people, who like Chinese food, know Sichuan food is good. So you
cannot
help wondering why when you are actually in Sichuan, you could not find
good or authentic Sichuan food in Jiuzhaigou. The restaurants in
InterContinental are the best in the place, although the food was not up
to
Sichuan standard. Food in the parks is, you know, fast food, not tasty.
Bring your own lunch.
Animals:
You won’t see real wild animals, but you will see quite some semi-wild
animals, as they are owned by the locals, but live free in the mountains
just as wild animals. The owners will have to hunt when they harvest.
The
animals you will see there include yaks, horses, and goats. You could
also
see a squirrel or two.
Toilet:
Just as any national park toilet, it is not very nice. Water is not
available everywhere, so bring some wet wipe. And, toilet paper is not
available at all, bring your own paper. However, in Jiuzhaigou Valley,
toilet is equipped with automatic plastic seat cover, which is a nice
surprise. And toilet can be found every half a mile, which is
convenient.
Travel:
Before the trip, I heard people said that the hotel car service was more
expensive and not worth the money, but my experience showed otherwise.
We
took a taxi from the airport without prior reservation. We paid the fair
price, which is RMB 200. The driver kept suggesting us to stay at some
other
hotels and watch some shows, which we had no interest in. He kept
talking
about these and asking about our plans during the entire one hour trip.
We
were so tired in the end and agreed to use his service again the next
day.
On the next morning, when we called him to pick us up, he told us that
he is
not around, and would have someone else to come. 20 minutes later, a
cigarette-smoking young driver showed up, and claimed to be the previous
one
's nephew. He was worse than his uncle. He kept saying inappropriate
things,
trying to persuade us to go to some shows and change hotels. On the way
back to hotel, because we told him we were not interested in any of the
shows or service, he dropped us off in the middle and asked someone else
to
pick us up. The round trip from the hotel to Jiuzhaigou Valley costs RMB
100
. We never picked up their calls again. The following days, we used
hotel
car service. The driver was also a hotel employee, and he only did this
part
time for extra money. This driver was nice, didn’t smoke, didn’t talk
too
much, and didn’t try to make a sale. He drove carefully and was very
considerate, such as he slowed down when he noticed that I tried to
drink
water. The trip to Holy Pond costs RMB 400, if you take a taxi, while
the
hotel car service costs RMB 450 or more, depends on the car type. The
trip
to Huanglong costs RMB 560-600 on taxi, and our driver only asked for
RMB
500. To airport, taxi costs RMB 200, while hotel service costs around
RMB
300. If you use the same driver, he should be able to give you a package
discount. I recommend hotel car service over taxi.
Places:
Jiuzhaigou Valley:
Ticket costs RMB 220 (entry fee) + 90 (shuttle bus fee). The tickets are
pre
-stamped (domestic) post cards, which is nice. If you are above 60, show
your passport (or other official ID’s) to get a RMB 50 discount.
You will be shuttle/walk for the trip. There is a tour guide on each
shuttle
. She/he will tell you what’s the next POI, how to visit this particular
one, and where to take the next shuttle. Instructions are very clear.
The
entire valley is Y shaped. The upper left branch is not interesting.
Most
good things are on the upper right branch. The schedule shuttle route
goes
all the way to the top (Long Sea) on upper left branch without a stop,
makes
you walk about 1 mile to a pond (Five-Color Pond), and then you can
take
shuttle there, which goes directly to the center of the Y. There you
change
to the shuttle goes to the top upper right branch. From there, you will
be
on and off bus to visit each point of interest on the way back to
entrance.
The Pearl Shoal is the most beautiful part. Five-Flower Pond is also
very
nice. Mirror Pond will be nice on a sunny day.
If you are on a very tight schedule, make sure that you tell the tour
guide
that you want to get off at center shuttle station. And change to the
other
shuttle directly (save you 1:40 hour, otherwise, the entire trip takes
you 6
hours or more). Also, you will notice the park is very crowded. At many
shuttle stations, you will have a hard time just to get on the shuttle.
People pay no attention whether you are a minor. Just assume you are on
the
worst rush hour.
Holy Pond:
Ticket costs RMB 100 (entry fee) + 24 (shuttle bus fee, which is a
joke).
Again, people above 60 receive RMB 10 discount.
It is not a well known park. It is developed by the owner of
InterContinental Jiuzhai, including the road to the park. So the road
condition is not very good. Although the park is only 34 miles away, it
takes 90 minutes to get there. But you will see some horses and goats on
the
way.
From the visitor center, the shuttle bus will take you to the beginning
of
the POI, which is less than 3 minutes away. You will walk the rest (a
circle
). The place is very small, but it has the view of both Jiuzhaigou
Valley (
the ponds) and Huanglong (calcified pond). Only about 100 people visit
the
place daily, so it is very quiet, and we liked it that way. There is a
natural spring water fountain, which is drinkable, a golden and silver
beach
, and a calcified holy pond. These are really nice. If you really don’t
want to walk (2.2 miles), you can choose to be carried by two people on
a
chair, which costs RMB 260. Otherwise the trip takes you 3:30 hour
Huanglong:
Ticket costs RMB 200 (entry fee) + 80 (up-bound cable car fee, optional,
but
strongly recommended) + 40 (down-bound cable car fee, optional, and not
recommended). Again, people above 60 receive RMB 50 discount.
Huanglong is a mountain. You can choose to walk up the steps or take the
cable car. The entrances are different for the two purposes. The
entrance
right next to the ticket booth is the walk way entrance. If you want to
take
the cable car, you will need to take the free shuttle to the cable car
station first. The cable car part takes about 8 minutes to get to the
upper
station. When you walk out from the cable, be careful, as the elevation
is
3500 meters. There are free oxygen stations every half a mile (you will
have
to pay RMB 1 for the tube though).
The rest of the trip is purely on foot. The first POI (Five-Color Pond,
the
best place) is 2 miles from the cable station, including several hundred
steps up. But it is the must-see in the park. From there, you will have
to
decide whether to take the cable car down the mountain. If you want to
take
the cable car, you will need to walk all the way back, including 1 mile
steps up. Or you can choose to walk down the mountain, which is 4200
meters
(2.6 mile)
You will find calcified pond here and there in the park. The trip takes
5
hours when you choose to walk down. | b********2 发帖数: 3189 | | v******i 发帖数: 2228 | 3 用得到就看,用不到就别看
