We are here to demand ABC network to terminate Jimmy Kimmel and to establish
a non-violent and non-discrimination policy to prevent similar incident
from occurring in the future.
Although Jimmy Kimmel had made public apology, that is not enough.
Terminating Kids Table segment does not fix the problem. To me, it is just
pointing fingers, this like you look at the mirror, you do not like what you
see in the mirror, you break your mirror, instead of fixing the problem.
The Kids Table should go on, because it is a really good reflection of what
our society look like. We let the 6 year old to speak out his mind, but it
is the responsibility of the adult, in our community, to stop this kind of
irresponsible, and insensitive comment. Jimmy Kimmel can easily just say, “
Hey, violent is not the solution to this kind of problem”. The ABC network
can easily just clip out those segment, and not to air this to not just the
United States, but around the the world. They failed to do that, and there
should be a consequence.
I have nothing personally against Jimmy Kimmel, be very honest with you, I
have never watched that show. But this is not about Jimmy Kimmel, this is
what statement that ABC network want to project, not just to the kids in the
United States, but around the world.
As a fellow Chinese American, I am very very highly disturbed by the message
, that promoted violence and hatred. I am not here because they attacked the
Chinese, because I believe if they attacked one of us, they attacked all of
us. Here are people in the audience here, we have spoken on many incidents,
for those discrimination or injustices to the African American, to the
Islamic. There are injustices based on racial, based on sexual orientation,
based on skin color, and based on religion. We do not tolerate, we do not
tolerate any of the above. That’s why I am here, that’s why you are here.
Just take a minute to think. If Jimmy Kimmel’s question was “Hey, we the
nation is having some real budgetary issue, we have obligation, trillions
dollars of obligation to pay the social security, to pay our retired people
in the United States, what would be your solution?”. If the kids gave the
same answer, “Kill all of those seniors, kill all those retirees”, do you
think Jimmy Kimmel would still have a talk show today?
That is why I am here, and that’s why I am very very honored to be joined
by many of our community leaders here to denounce the action. People called
me, sending email, saying “You probably has gone too far. The guy already
apologized, why do you want to terminate him?”.
I strongly disagree, I strongly disagree because of the reasons that I
mentioned:
First, violence is not the solution to the problem. Second, attack on one of
us is attack on all of us. ABC and Jimmy Kimmel should understand the
consequences, and really either step down or being removed. I am hoping that
ABC would be able to find somebody more sensitive to the issue, more mature
, and above all, have a stronger social obligation to our nation. That’s
why we are all here today.

I was glad to be here today... I would say I would be glad to be here today
if I was here to celebrate with you the moon festival, I could say I would
be glad to be here today if I was to celebrate the Chinese new years, but I
have gather here today to deal with another racist practice of somebody on
national television is a shame.
Lao Tzu said "Respond intelligently even to unintelligent treatment". And I
am telling you it is time to respond to him intelligently even though he has
acted unintelligently.
Anyone who has been in state of California should know something about the
Chinese history - the exclusion of Chinese people, and the treatment that
American, and Californian particularly have treated Chinese people. So for
ABC and Jimmy Kimmel to allow this to go out on National Television, is a
shame and a embarrassment not only to state of California, but to American
as a whole.
A Chinese proverb says, "A man's conversation is the mirror of his thoughts"
. Jimmy, we know how you think, we know how you feel about people of color.
That was displayed by this sensationalism in television you've used over the
last month and half, one with Kanye West and a black thing going just a
month and a half ago. So in order to keep his ratings, he used this cheap
form of television in order to entertain some guest.
Teaching kids to hate has long been an American issue. Kids are not born to
hate, they are taught how to hate. His show demonstrates how hatred got
trained. With all the lately gun violence in the country, for him to talk
about killing people, is a shame.
In this history of the exclusion in California, those of us that know about
Peter Burnett, former governor here, who did not build California here for
Chinese, Mexicans or Blacks. We are dismayed at this continued celebration
of that type of rhetoric in California.
The kid segment should been cut and taken out or not even done at all. I
stand with this community here in Santa Clara county, and throughout the
state, to do whatever is necessary, to bring Jimmy Kimmel and ABC's
production of television like that, that is disgraceful to America and to
this country, off the air.
Again, there is not one blade of grass, there is no color in this world,
that is not intended to make us rejoice. Regardless nationality, ethnicity
or creed, or sexuality you may be, we are all part of the same race, and
that's the human race.
Everybody gets up in the morning, wanting their kids to have a safe day,
want to go to work and come home and provide for their family, are the basic
human needs. Every American citizen and any human being is entitled to that
, so we stand against anybody who teaches hate or wants to produce any type
of hatred that goes on the air, and that goes from Radio to Television and
to the Internet.
And again, I stand with you, anything I can do, Kansen, my brother, just
calling me, I am there. |
