not done it yet)
I just gave birth over a week ago, wanted to tell you this while fresh in my
mind:
My experience-- Prenatal care:
I went to Scripps Clinic Carmel Valley for prenatal care. My OB is Dr.
Vivian Ellis, a middle-age Caucasian lady. She is usually very busy and I
didn't see her that many times before delivery-- most of the time my nurse
practitioner Wendy (NP) took care of me. Wendy is gentle and knowledgeable.
Office visits with Dr. Ellis can be a long wait, and short in duration; but
that is what I expected with big groups so I was okay with that. If you
have any problems or concerns you can call after hours and a doctor or a
midwife is always on call with their group to address your issues and
usually a nurse (maybe midwife) returns your call in 20 minutes. I didn't
use this service until 9th month into pregnancy.
Hospital delivery:
By the way, like mentioned in the other post on this topic: patients need to
know that your OB may not be the one to deliver your baby.
She can be on vacation, or scheduled to work in the clinic on the day your
baby decide to arrive, and the designated person covering for her will be
the one delivering your baby instead. In my case, I was over-due (with no
contractions and no water-breaking) so Dr. Ellis scheduled my induction;
therefore, she was the one who delivered my baby and did the repair of the
tear for me. She took her time doing the stitches carefully... I couldn't
see, but I'm confident she did a nice job.
So, I don't know if she's the most suitable doctor for you, but she is good
at what she does. During your appointments, remember to stop her and ask
questions if you have any, because she's so used to the routines she (and
any doc/nurse) may not realize we sometimes need extra explanations if going
through the process for the first time.
good luck! | m**S 发帖数: 96 | 3 forgot to mention the hospital is Scripps Memorial La Jolla; nurses are very
helpful and many of them with very sweet personality.
all rooms are private; your labor and delivery room will be a good size for
family to visit; recovery room is kinda small | c****l 发帖数: 1204 | 4 I don't know why the online review of Dr Ellis is sooooo bad. 9 out of 10
patients said she is cold, arrogant and strict. I was planning to switch to
dr Ellis this year, but after reading her review, I decided not to move.
Do you really think dr Ellis is a nice person? | n********h 发帖数: 13135 | 5 Dr Ellis's technique is really good. I guess the problem is that she is
super busy and may not have too much time to do small talk. And her office
staff is really bad and it is so hard to schedule an appointment with her.

| c****l 发帖数: 1204 | 6 I noticed that dr Ellis is the only female doctor in the department, many
women like to choose female to be OB/GYN, maybe that's the reason she is
supper busy.
Do you guys have a preference for doctor's gender? | m**S 发帖数: 96 | 7 to cvgirl: I wanted a female OB/GYN, and you have a good point-- this cuts
down my choices significantly. However, I feel more comfortable with female
doctors, it's just a personal choice. (My family doc is female too, but
she's not in Scripps system.)
I got the referral to Dr. Ellis from my family doc's office staff. (My
criteria was someone experienced, female, and delivers at hospital near home
, such as Scripps Memorial La Jolla.) When I first found out I was pregnant
(at 5 weeks), my family doctor gave me another (also Caucasian female, but
non-Scripps doc) OB's name to contact. But when I called that office, the
first available appointment was two months later and the receptionist/
scheduler would not let me go that long without a prenatal visit (so
rejected me as new patient).
5 | 9 Thanks for the kind reply. We live in utc, wondering if there is any good
