Gay Rights Leader to Sue Chinese Newspaper
By Advocate.com Editors
Xiao Dong, a gay rights leader in China, plans to sue a Beijing newspaper
for unauthorized reporting on the marriage of a gay couple.
Asian News International reports that Xiao, the master of ceremonies for the
wedding, claims that the Beijing Times published photographs of the couple
’s backs despite their opposition. His attorney has sent a letter to the
newspaper asking for removal of the photos from websites, an official
apology and the dismissal of the reporter who attended the wedding.
Xiao said the report contained other inaccuracies, and that the reporter was
invited to the private event along with other media partners as a reward
for not reporting the event in advance.
Same-sex marriage is illegal in China, reports ANI.
Xiao works at the Beijing Rainbow Volunteer Station for HIV/AIDS Prevention.
