Tim Tebow's prayerful kneel pose is inspiring new terminology. The Global
Language Monitor says the term "Tebowing" has been accepted into the English
language as an official word. It's described as the act of "taking a knee"
in prayerful reflection in the midst of athletic activity. The term's
origins lie in a recent photograph of Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow
in the kneeling pose while his teammates celebrated their victory over the
Miami Dolphins on October 23rd. The Global Language Monitor cites ESPN's
frequent use of the term on its broadcasts as evidence of the quick
acceptance and growing popularity of the term. Tebowing.com, a website
dedicated to people posing in the so-called "tebowing position," has also
helped the term go viral.
Tebow continues to make headlines for his unabashed commitment to his
religion. The 2007 Heisman trophy winner was at the center of controversy
last year for touting a pro-life message in a commercial that aired during
the Super Bowl.
