Move over, Harbaugh: Brady Hoke throws his name in Michigan job hat

Of course, with Rich Rodriguez still tearfully and awkwardly employed at
Michigan, all of this is purely hypothetical.
Nevertheless, San Diego State coach Brady Hoke has apparently expressed
interest in one day obtaining the head coaching gig with the Maize and Blue
and, surprisingly, Aztecs AD Stephen Weber is actually aware of — and fine
with — this little fact.
A report from the San Diego Union Tribune mentions that when Hoke was
interviewing for the SDSU job in 2008, one of the questions Weber asked was
— and we quote — "How do you see this position at San Diego State fitting
in with the arc of your career?"
Hoke’s response was that “The end of that arc was head coach of the
University of Michigan.”
Perhaps more surprising than Hoke’s answer (at least to this guy) was Weber
’s response.
"If he were offered the opportunity, I have got to believe there is no way
we can compete with that, and I kind of like the fact we have a coach who (
would be) in play for a place like the University of Michigan. C'mon, this
is a good thing."
Well, to each his own.
Now, the status quo is that Hoke signed a contract extension through 2015
that will ultimately pay at least $750,000 in base salary — a number that
will likely go up over the coming years. Yet, as JT reported in Hoke’s
contract negotiations, the coach does have ties to the Michigan program, and
in the event Jim Harbaugh isn’t brought on, it certainly wouldn’t be
outside the realm of possibilities for Hoke to be seriously considered for
the job.
And, as we’ve seen, SDSU is totally okay with that. | c*******0
