to the Chinese for our disastrous response by suggesting that the Chinese
were minimizing the issues. The truth is that China locked down 50 million
people when the total caseload in their country stood at 600. Just which
part of that is a minimized response? Having seen SARS first hand in 2003,
they reacted in a manner initially criticized by us as being draconian. We
started the first shelter in place in the Bay Area only this week some 2
months after the Chinese lockdown and after seeing the Italian medical
system overwhelmed. The Chinese had no real warning. We had thousands of
deaths. As long as we don't own up to our failures, how are we to correct
them? |
