s****e 发帖数: 7018 | 5 A union station is a railway station where tracks and facilities are shared
by two or more separate railway companies, allowing passengers to connect
conveniently between them. The term 'union station' is used in North America
and 'joint station' is used in Europe. |

i think someone (bored, obviously) made up these 似是而非的解释。
the last passenger train run by the Union pacific company was around 1971.
so I don't fault people nowadays who don't know the past.
back in old days. before there was AMTRAK
Union Pacific was running most passengers rails out west and from north to
south in midwest.
Pennsylvanian Railroad was running passenger trains on eastern seaboard.
those stations owned by Union Pacific were all called UNION STATIONS
and those owned by Pennsylvanian were all called PENN STATIONS
simple like that. it came directly from ownership.
Back to what I said on the top, the attempt to use European analogy to claim
union stations as rail junctions is just crazy and far-fetched.
shared
