TERREBONNE PARISH, LA (WVUE) -
The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office arrested two women in connection with
a scam at a local restaurant.
In July, TPSO received complaints from 25 Terrebonne and Lafourche residents
who reported that their bank accounts and credit cards had been used
without their permission. Detectives launched an investigation and learned
that although none of the cards had been physically stolen, the account
numbers had been duplicated. Purchases totaling nearly $30,000 were made in
the victim's accounts.
All of the victims reported using their cards during a one week period at
the Dynasty Buffet on West Park Avenue.
The investigation revealed that two waitresses had worked at the restaurant
for one week in July and had skimmed the credit card numbers of customers,
the Shriff's Office said. After a week of work, the women quit and returned
to their homes in New York City.
Detectives worked with the restaurant owners and with detectives from the
New York Police Department to identify the suspects. Detectives issued
arrest warrants, and 17-year-old Wendy Liu and 18-year-old Ke Xin Lin were
arrested in New York City.
TPSO detectives traveled to New York to continue the investigation and to
try to determine the identity of a man captured on surveillance video using
the credit cards. That man has not been identified.
Liu and Lin will be brought back to Houma and will be booked at the
Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex with 25 counts of skimming and 25
counts of identity theft. Both suspects have previous arrests in New York
and New Jersey for similar offenses.
