(most commonly available on ebay) and one putter, assuming you have never
played before, and just want to learn the game.
at least two benefits: (1) very low cost, and after a while, you might have
an idea on what clubs you want; (2); focus on one club, and focus more on
swing, solid ball contact and divot.
This is just from my own experience--I bought a new callaway set to learn
the game but sold it in one month after my golf lesson was over due to
serious injury. When I restarted golf, I bought one single mizuno 6
iron (demo version, cheap, on ebay, $30) and used it for about 4 months to
study ball contact , swing path, and figure out how to make a good divot
etc. When I could hit the 6 iron fairly well, I decided to purchase a
whole set and started to walk on the course to play game.
During the 4 months of one single iron practicing, I have never played on
the course. I believe the focus on one club has helped my game. Once I
received the whole set, from iron 6 up, it was easy. I did have difficulty
at the beginning with long irons. However, after trying a few models of
hybrids, I found the hybrids work well for me if I just use the same swing (
at least, that is what I feel) so I really do not need to practice long
irons.
Just my 0.01.
