to help fellow Chinese Oracle professionasl to improve, let's put up a
reading recommendation list. There are lots of BAD Oracle books out there.
Let help new comers reach right information quickly.
Here are my list
1) Oracle Concept Manual: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/toc.htm
2) Effective Oracle By Design by Thoms Kyte This is a must read for all
DBAs. You may be able to download the book from www.baidu.com and do a pdf
search
3) Optimizing Oracle Performance by Cary Millsap, this is for Senior
Oracle DBA, it is an eye opening performance tuning book for me, however
just ignore the sales pitch part of the book.
4) Cost-Based Oracle Fundamentals by Johnathan Lewis. This is not an
easy book, it is tough to read! However this book is Oracle optimizer bible.
Many Oracle authors borrowed from this book, this book is for advanced
Oracle DBA.
For regular readings, I read asktom.oracle.com and Jonathan Lewis blog http://jonathanlewis.wordpress.com/.
For beginner Oralce DBAs, verify your source of information on the web, some
performance tuning tips are bad . One example is http://www.dba-oracle.com/. This site is good with on HOWTOs. but it has bad information on performance tuning. It regularly shows up on top if you google oralce related information. Please be careful.
Above is my list. Anyone else? |
